Every year I choose a word of the year that sets my intention. The first word that resonated with me this year was “refresh”. I was thinking of how you hit the refresh button on your computer to update it, realign the icons, or make it more responsive. I also thought about “refresh” as taking some time to rest and reflect.
While doing some research on what this word might mean to others, I came upon an article that talked about “refresh, recalibrate, reemerge”. The focus of this article was on your career which was not where I was going with this, but I liked some of their points and I liked the idea of doing a series of steps to finally “reemerge”.
So now I am looking at “refresh” as a first step and one that I have been working on since my husband died in October. I have been reflecting on what my life purpose is now and allowing some time just to recharge my batteries and slowly working up to “reemerging’.
I am also working on realigning what I am actually doing in my day-to-day life with my values. While looking into what this might mean to me, I came across this quote:
“Just as your car runs more smoothly and requires less energy to go faster and farther when the wheels are in perfect alignment, you perform better when your thoughts, feelings, emotions, goals, and values are in balance.” ~ Brian Tracy
On a very basic level I knew that I had not been taking care of my physical health and well-being. I also knew that I had not been fully there for my clients or for my businesses. My life had been very reactive to whatever was happening at the moment, and I had not been allowing time to center and reflect each day.
Now I believe I am ready to develop a plan to “reemerge”.
Moving forward through this year I intend to:
· Take time each morning to write in my gratitude journal and set my intention for the day
· Schedule times for walking
· Reach out and reconnect with past clients
· Develop my business plan for the year
· Connect with friends and plan activities that we can do together
· Schedule vacation times to visit my family
As I continue to work on reemerging, I am sure that more will be added to my list. This is a year-long process. I welcome any suggestions concerning how I can make this work.
One thing I know for sure is that I love my work and that it gives me joy. I feel blessed to be in a position to continue my work.
